Matthew Meade is a Brooklyn-based writer, composer, lyricist, director, and performer with a love for classic musical theater, big-hearted comedy, and stories that know when to wink. An old-school song-and-dance man at heart, Matthew grew up inspired by performers like Dick Van Dyke and Gene Kelly, but his work now lives at the intersection of theatrical nostalgia, queer joy, sharp humor, and emotional honesty.
His original musicals include Miss Fairfield County: The Pageant: The Musical, a campy, heartfelt queer musical comedy about a small-town beauty pageant gone gloriously off the rails, and Midnight Frequency, a 1940s-inspired radio whodunit murder mystery musical. His music has been heard at sold-out 54 Below performances, and his work as a writer and composer continues to anchor his creative life in New York City. As a performer, favorite credits include Hello, Dolly! at Central Park’s Naumburg Bandshell, The Producers at the historic Renaissance Theatre, and Fiddler on the Roof, working alongside composer Jeff Richmond.
Beyond the stage, Matthew has been a pageant coach since 2012 and is a passionate advocate for self-love, queer rights, and the occasional political upheaval, including that time in 2022 when he somehow ignited a Congressional campaign. At home, he’s usually cooking, hosting, writing something new, or being kept in check by his husband, Jason, their scruffy dog, Buster, and their fiercely independent cat, Molly. He has an unabashed love for reality TV, a deep appreciation for a well-drawn bath, and a lifelong devotion to The Parent Trap, the Lindsay Lohan version, of course.
